Ryanair has confirmed that a revision of its winter schedule will see the closure of the airline’s bases at Shannon and Cork for the winter months.

Shannon Group has welcomed the announcement in Budget 2021 of a €10 million support package for Shannon and Cork airports.

The €10m allocated to Cork and Shannon Airports in Budget 2021 is “utterly inadequate” to compensate the airports for the Government's decision to shut down the Irish aviation sector.

Independent TDs from across the west of Ireland are calling for a range of urgent State supports for Shannon Airport after Shannon Group updated them on how business operations at Shannon Heritage and Shannon Airport have been “decimated” as a result of Covid.

Shannon Group will light up Shannon Airport, and its Bunratty Castle & Folk Park and King John’s Castle visitor attractions in green from 7.30pm tomorrow evening.

Mayors from Clare, Limerick, Kerry, Tipperary and Galway, who have formed an alliance to support Shannon Airport, have pledged to do all they can to lobby Government for airport supports to ensure balance regional development.

The Government is working on establishing in a “robust” Covid-19 test and screening system for passengers Shannon Airport.

Ryanair has threatened to close its Shannon base from October 26th blaming the government for mismanaging air travel on and off the Island.
