A man has died in a road traffic collision in Co Clare.

Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara today raised the serious issue of ambulance availability in the Dáil following an incident at the weekend where a road crashed victim waited over two hours for an ambulance to travel from Galway.

An ambulance was sent 175 kilometres from a station in Co Galway to a road traffic collision in Co Clare on Sunday afternoon.

The newly upgraded Kilkee Fire Station has been officially opened  by the Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Cllr PJ Ryan.

Emergency services are dealing with a single-vehicle collision on the M18 near Dromoland.

Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a body on the coastline in south Co Galway this afternoon.

The Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat was tasked to two separate incidents back-to-back after two cruise boats were reported to have gotten into difficulty on the lake.

A major search and rescue operation was mounted this afternoon after a small boat with two people on board was reported to be in serious danger off the Co Clare coast.
