Killaloe Coast Guard unit was called out this afternoon to assist five people on board a cruiser that was reported hard aground on Lough Derg.

Emergency services responded to an incident in Co Tipperary this afternoon which turned out to be a false alarm with good intent.

In the lead up to the Easter bank holiday weekend, the Coast Guard, RNLI and Water Safety Ireland have issued a joint water safety appeal and are asking people to take some basic precautions to stay safe when they visit the coast or participate in water activities, be it coastal or inland.

A helm at Lough Derg RNLI has retired after twelve years dedicated service to the charity.

A man was rescued from a lake in Co Clare last night after he became confused and entered the water.

The Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat was launched this afternoon to assist six people on a 37ft cruiser that had run aground north of Hare Island on the Co. Clare shore. 

A body has been recovered from the sea off Co Clare this afternoon, the second in less than 24 hours.
