In the lead up to the Easter bank holiday weekend, the Coast Guard, RNLI and Water Safety Ireland have issued a joint water safety appeal and are asking people to take some basic precautions to stay safe when they visit the coast or participate in water activities, be it coastal or inland.

The body of a woman was been recovered from the sea off Co Clare.

The death has taken place of well know Lahinch community activist and long-time member of the RNLI Tomsie O'Sullivan.

The volunteer crew of the Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat was tasked this afternoon to investigate a report from a member of the public that a kayaker was in difficulty by Navigation Mark J, at the northern end of the lake.

A man has died after he was swept out to sea while walking along the shoreline in West Clare this afternoon. 

A search is expected to resume on Monday for a person reported to have been seen falling from a cliff in Co Clare this afternoon.

The Irish Coast Guard has reported an 12% increase in the overall number of incidents coordinated during 2021.

The Irish Coast Guard and RNLI have issued a joint message appealing to the public to exercise caution when participating in any activity on or near the water during the Christmas and New Year period.

A multi-agency search operation was mounted this afternoon after a person reported themselves to be in difficulty in the water near Portumna, at the northern end of Lough Derg.
