Clare Fine Gael Senator, Tony Mulcahy says the funding will ensure that Local Authorities together with local communities will have increased flexibility to progress remedial and maintenance works carried out on roads in their area.
“Since the economic collapse, there has been underinvestment in roads and public transport. With the economy recovering, there is now scope to increase funding and to reinvest,” said Senator Mulcahy.
“Our roads are vital in attracting investment and in supporting businesses in every part of the country. In order to keep the roads in good condition, €34 million nationally will go towards maintenance and strengthening national, regional and local roads and over €1 million of this will go directly to Clare. This is particularly important for tourism considering Clare’s prominent position along the Wild Atlantic Way,” he concluded.
