The Primary schools (construction commencement year) include Sixmilebridge NS (2016), Ennis CBS NS, Scoil Chriost Rí, Ennistymon NS (2017), Ennis Educate Together NS (2018), and Gaelscoil Donncha Rua in Shannon, Gaelscoil Ui Choimin in Kilrush, Raheen Wood Steiner NS and Mol an Óige Steiner NS (2019-2021).
Building projects at Ennis Community College and Ennistymon Post Primary will proceed to construction in 2017.
Clare Fine Gael Senator Tony Mulcahy said: “Each of the Clare schools featured in this announcement has experienced an increase in students attending in recent years which has consequently, increased pressure on classroom sizes.”
“Each of the schools has served their respective communities well over the years so I am delighted that the Department has approved plans to provide staff, pupils and the communities in question with the most modern surroundings,” he added.
Clare TD Pat Breen commented: ““This school building programme sets out over 310 individual major school building projects, which will proceed to construction between 2016 and 2021. Meanwhile the Government is also announcing today that 13 new primary and second-level schools are to open in 2017 and 2018.
“I’m very aware of the pressing need to provide more school places in Clare in order to continue to meet the accommodation requirements of our growing school going population. This funding will facilitate the provision of more school places in Clare and this significant investment will also support direct and indirect in Clare
“I know how vital it is to parents across Clare that their children are not just guaranteed a school place, but are guaranteed that they can learn and grow in a comfortable environment, which is conducive to study. Fine Gael is committed to ensuring that this happens,” he added.
