Body found in north Clare identified

The body of a man discovered washed up in north Clare on Sunday has been formally identified.

The discovery was made at around 8.50pm on Sunday by two people who had been walking in the area.

They alerted Gardaí who immediately travelled to the scene where they found the body of a male was found washed up on the rocks at Aughinish near Kinvara on the Clare side of the county boundary.

A local doctor was called and he was pronounced dead at 10pm at scene while the body was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.

A Garda spokesman confirmed: “The body of the male has been identified as an 86-year-old retiree who was last seen near Salthill, Co Galway on the 17th June 2016. A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow the 23rd June 2016 at University Hospital Limerick.
