As National Reuse Month draws to a close, Clare County Council has announced it is compiling an online Repair Directory for County Clare.
The Local Authority is inviting repair service providers throughout the County to be included on the list free of charge.
National Reuse Month is a new waste prevention initiative to raise awareness about the economic and environmental benefits of reusing everyday items and materials that would otherwise go to waste. Throughout October, workshops and events have been held in Clare to promote ways for families, businesses and communities to reuse.
Commenting on the Repair Directory, Clare County Council’s Environmental Awareness Officer, Karen Foley said, “There are plenty of people who may want to get something mended or fixed, but don’t know where to turn. The aim is to encourage repair and reuse as a method of reducing waste. We would like to include as many repair services from across County Clare as possible.”
“More and more people are seeing the value in getting items repaired and are seeking out repair services more than ever before. Repair and reuse also play an important part of the local economy,” she added. “Clare County Council is hoping to capture information and make it available to the general public. There would be no cost to a business to be listed in this directory.”
The Clare Repair Directory is being compiled as a waste prevention action under the Southern Regional Waste Management Plan. Large domestic appliances, small domestic appliances, furniture repair and upholstery, leather and shoe repairs, computer and mobile phones repairs, clothes alterations, bicycle repairs and servicing, musical instrument repairs, lawnmowers and garden machinery, watches and jewellery repairs are the likely services expected to be included.
