Colin Smyth is the biggest name to make a move in the closing days of the Clare District Soccer League transfer market.

A winner of a Premier League and Cup medal with Newmarket Celtic last season, the midfielder has rejoined former club Avenue Utd. Throughout the summer months there had been speculation of a possible move for the Oscar Traynor medallist but he got same game time under his belt with Celtic which seemed to put some rumours to bed.

However Smyth has since commenced employment in Galway and informed the Newmarket Celtic management he would be unable to commit to their bid to retain their League and Cup crowns. His return to Avenue Utd is a massive boost to the club who have welcomed Davy O’Halloran to their squad. The pair featured in the Ennis’ club FAI Junior Cup round two win over Newcastlewest last Sunday.

Colm Treacy has moved in the opposite direction to Colin Smyth. He rejoins Newmarket Celtic and will compete for a position in their defence.

Elsewhere Brian Cosgrove has departed Bridge Celtic and joins Newport, Cristoir McCaw has moved from Burren Utd to Moher Celtic and John Keogh transferred to Shannon Hibernians from Bridge Utd.
