John Carmody is to take charge of the Clare U21 hurling team.

Kilmaley man Carmody will succeed Donal Moloney in the role. For the past four seasons John was in charge of the Crusheen senior hurlers as he helped to maintain their reputation as one of the most consistent teams in the County leading them to the 2014 Clare SHC final where they lost out to Cratloe and to two Clare Champion Cup Finals.

The Clare People reports that the Ennis accountant was interviewed for the manager’s job on Thursday and appointed two days later. Nominated for the position at the end of October by the Crusheen club, Carmody was one of two men vying for the role alongside Sixmilebridge’s John O’Meara.

This will not be his first time managing at inter-county level having previously guided the Clare Senior Camogie team to their first provincial title at the grade. John was also in charge of the Kilmaley hurlers that were victorious in the 2004 Clare SHC.

No members of his management team have been revealed and he is set to finalise personnel within the next three weeks.
