The event aims to save lives by ensuring that child seats are properly fitted in cars and visit Kilrush, Shannon and Ennis.

The ‘Check it Fits’ team will be available between 10am and 5.30pm daily to help parents and guardians to correctly fit their child car seats.

The RSA ‘Check it Fits’ Service travels all over Ireland on a fulltime basis, checking child car seats everywhere it goes.

At present, 3 out of 4 child car seats are incorrectly fitted in cars and an incorrectly fitted child car seat could lead to serious injury or death in the event of a collision.

To address this problem, we have access to trained experts who are familiar with almost every child car seat on the market and who can check your car seat and answer any questions you may have at our free ‘Check it Fits’ Service.

Clare Road Safety Officer, Barry Keating said the aim of this week’s roadshows is to help parents and guardians to learn how to fit their child’s car seat so that they can be reassured that their child is travelling safely.

He explained: “Sadly, research conducted at previous roadshows has revealed that 3 out of 4 parents are not fitting their child’s car seat correctly which could lead to serious or fatal injury in the event of a crash. We understand that many parents, particularly new parents, are unsure as to what car seat is right for their child and they often don’t get information from retailers as to how to fit it correctly.”

Mr. Keating said that the public information events will feature a drive-through marquee enabling people to turn up in their car with their child car seat.

He added: “The checks only take a few minutes and an expert will personally check every child car seat to ensure it is fitted correctly, or if not, demonstrate how to fit it correctly or provide advice on whether a different car seat is required. Over the past seven years, thousands of child car seats have been checked by the RSA’s experts, giving thousands of parents the peace of mind that their child is travelling safely in the car.”

“This free service could save a life, so I would urge Clare parents, guardians and grandparents to please take the time to visit the roadshows if possible,” Mr. Keating concluded.
