Shoppers in Ennis will be able to avail of free parking in more places than before with Clare County Council having announced three further destinations.

In a bid to attract shoppers to Ennis in the run up to Christmas, Clare County Council is introducing free car parking at Waterpark House, Drumbiggle Road and at Áras Contae an Chláir from 10.00am to 6.00pm on Saturday 17th, Sunday 18th and on Saturday 24th December.

The parking incentives are in addition to the free parking scheme being implemented at public carparks throughout the Clare County Capital every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 3.00pm until Sunday 8 January 2017.

Clare County Council has already acquired parking spaces for the festive season that are normally used by Dublin Coach at the Temple Gate Hotel. Cllr James Breen suggested at the December meeting of the Ennis Municipal District that the local authority avail of Waterpark House for extra room and they have done just that.

O’Connell Square and O’Connell Street from O’Connell Square to its junction with Station Road will also be pedestrianised from midday to 6.00 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday (17-18 December), and on Friday 23 December and Christmas Eve.

Meanwhile, the streets of Ennis will come alive to the sound of Christmas music when Ennis Christmas Radio airs from this Friday (December 16th) through to Christmas Eve. Well-known local radio presenter Ger Sweeney will be broadcasting daily from Ennis Market with the broadcast being relayed on street speakers throughout the town. Ennis Chamber and Clare County Council are jointly funding Ennis Christmas Radio.
