The launch of the annual initiative, which is supported by Applegreen and Coillte, took place in Ruan today where Cllr. Bill Chambers (Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council) and Cllr. Joe Cooney (Chair of Clare County Council’s Environment SPC) joined local National School students to plant native trees.

Among the registered Tree Week events taking place this year is ‘Beekeepers for trees’ in Sixmilebridge on Wednesday at 11.00 a.m. when Banner Beekeepers will plant saplings for the purposes of pollination. On Thursday, staff from SWS Forestry will attend Creegh National School to plant some trees with the teachers and students.

This year’s National Tree Week coincides with the launch by Clare County Council of a new reference guide for organisations, community groups and Tidy Towns groups involved in planting trees in towns and villages across County Clare.

The aim of the ‘County Clare Tree Design Guide for Towns and Villages’ is to promote the importance of trees, inspire people to plant more trees, demonstrate where to plant trees and inform on how, which and when to plant trees. The new publication is available to download from www.clarecoco.ie.
