The official opening has taken place in Kilrush of a new Tourist Information Point for West Clare.
Located at the former Lillis Travel Agency office in the town square and operational until the end of September, the new service is a rural development and tourism initiative of Clare County Council in the West Clare Municipal District and is supported by Kilrush Chamber of Commerce.
Councillor Michael Hillery, Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District of West Clare, has congratulated Clare County Council and Kilrush Chamber of Commerce on adopting a joint approach to promoting West Clare’s “vast wealth of tourism assets.”
“Clare is fortunate to have established tourism destinations and attractions such as Lough Derg, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark, Bunratty and our county capital of Ennis. However, there is much more to the county than these flagship attractions,” added Councillor Hillery.
He continued, “In West Clare and right throughout the Loop Head Peninsula and further up the coast, we have a huge amount to offer visitors in terms of attractions, festivals and events, and places to eat and stay. The role of the Tourist Information Point will be to point people in the right direction.”
Pat Dowling, Chief Executive of Clare County Council, said, “This project presents a significant opportunity to showcase the Kilrush and wider West Clare tourism product. It also demonstrates an effective partnership between Clare County Council and Kilrush Chamber of Commerce and tourism businesses in West Clare in line with the Clare Rural Development Strategy.”
Helen Williams of Kilrush Chamber of Commerce, commented, “In recent weeks, tourism providers in the wider West Clare area have been invited to contribute tourism material and resources for inclusion at the new Tourist Information Point. We look forward to working with Clare County Council in distributing and promoting this material for the benefit of West Clare and the wider tourism sector.”
