Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a body washed up on beach in north Clare this morning.

A person out walking made the discovery at around 11.30am and alerted the authorities.

The body, believed to be that of a man, was found on the shoreline south of the main beach at Fanore.

Gardaí from Ennistymon and members of the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard responded to the scene.

The area where the discovery was made was examined and photographed by Gardaí before being recovered from the beach by Coast Guard members.

The body has since been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem examination is due to be carried out.

It’s understood that Gardaí have no reports of anyone missing in the area but are investigating whether there may be a link between the discovery and a car found parked in the Liscannor area late last week.
