Kilkee made up for their meeting at this stage of the competition last year. That tie saw O’Currys stroll to a six point win. There was no strolling in this fixture only by the umpires as they resumed their positions beside the goals after half-time.

A bright start from the Saints saw them head into a 0-03 0-01 lead inside the opening quarter. By the half-time break, captain Eoin Troy led the O’Currys revival as they went in the happier at the break ahead 0-06 0-05 with Troy kicking four points while at the other end Gearoid Lynch was the chief scorer for Kilkee.

Troy and Tom Downes increased their lead after the resumption. However the Blues would finish the stronger scoring six of the final seven scores with David Russell, Brian Clancy, Lynch, Barry Harte and Chris Williamson raising white flags as they booked their place in the winners’ section of Round Two while O’Curry’s must now regroup in the losers’ section.
