Newmarket Celtic followed up their five goal victory over Shannon Olympic midweek with another five goal and five star performance against Sporting Ennistymon.

Cathal Hayes gave Newmarket an early lead after heading home a Brian Monaghan cross. David McCarthy made it 2-0 also from a header after getting on the end of a good delivery from Mark O’Malley. Eoin Hayes made it 3-0 with a low shot that went in off the post. Sporting pulled a goal back before half time when Michael Leigh got on the end of a well delivered Michéal Duffy corner. Liam Keane came close to getting Sporting right back in the contest with a brilliant left foot strike from 25 yards that rebounded off the crossbar. Newmarket upped their game again and Eoin Hayes scored his second after getting put through by David McCarthy to restore the visitors 3 goal advantage. Brian Monaghan rounded off the scoring with his side’s fifth goal before full time with a well struck low effort to the corner.

Shannon Town made it 3 from 3 in the Premier to stay top of the table with a well deserved win against fellow promoted club Bridge Celtic at Bridgetown on Sunday.

In difficult playing conditions Town settled the better of the two sides and should have taken the lead when Kieran Hackett’s shot lacked enough power after being put through one on one by Robbie wall. Both teams exchanged half chances in a tight first half which ended scoreless.

The second half was full of goals starting with Josh Lydnsey who got in behind the Celtic defence and slotted home passed the keeper after fifty five minutes. Bridge Celtic equalised a few minutes later when a free kick caused problems and was headed in over Paudie Hickey in the Town goal.

Shannon Town kept pushing and were rewarded with a cracking strike from Chris Lake who volleyed home from 25 yards following a headed defensive clearance. They secured all three points when Lydnsey was taken down in the box and John Allen duly converted the penalty. Josh Lyndsey, Evan Glynn, Kieran Hackett and Jack Kelly were best for the winners.
