Killaloe Coast Guard assist vessel with fouled prop

The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard was requested to launch its rescue boat this morning to assist a vessel in difficulty on Lough Derg.

The volunteer unit was tasked at around 9.30am by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Kerry. The Coast Guard had received a report that a vessel had fouled its propellor north of Kilalloe Bridge.

The rescue boat crew launched from their base at Pier Head, Killaloe and reached the casualty vessel within minutes. After assessing the situation, the vessel was taken on tow to a safe mooring where a shore team was on hand to assist with securing the vessel.

Once this had been completed, Coast Guard volunteers returned to their base at around 10.30am and made their equipment ready for the next call.
