The body of a man has been recovered from the sea at the Cliffs of Moher.
The alarm was raised at around 11.30 this morning after the man was seen falling from the cliffs just south of the main viewing platform.
Gardaí and members of the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard were alerted and travelled to the scene. The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, was also requested to assist.
The body could be seen in the water below and the rescue boat was directed to the area by personnel on the clifftop and the helicopter crew.
After being recovered from the water, the body was removed to the Coast Guard base at Doolin and later transferred to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination is expected to be carried out.
It’s understood gardaí have identified the victim.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Gardaí at Ennistymon issued an appeal for information about a man last seen close to the Cliffs of Moher over a fortnight ago.
29-year-old John Ryan, originally from Faranderry, Templemore Co Tipperary had been living in Bunratty Co Clare. He was last seen driving a green Volkswagen Golf near Liscannor on the evening of June 7th.
