The incident is the second fatal collision in Co Clare this year.

On May 31st last, a Polish man died after the car in which he was travelling pulled out onto a main road into the path of a motorcyclist. The incident happened at Doonagore near Doolin.

The front seat passenger of the car died at the scene while the motorcyclist, a retired member of An Garda Síochána, was seriously injured.
