09.45 –  The victim, a married father-of-two, has been named as Des Butler from Caherdavin in Limerick.

20.55 – The northbound off ramp at junction 7 has now reopened following the earlier fatal collision.

Earlier: A 50-year-old cyclist has died following a road traffic collision on the N18 near Bunratty this afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 11.45am on the N18 dual-carriageway at the turn-off for Shannon and Sixmilebridge.

Emergency services responded to the scene to find the man critically injured on the road.

A campervan, believed to have collided with the man, stopped in the hard-shoulder a short distance away.

An ambulance and advanced paramedic rapid response vehicle (RRV) attended the scene while four units of the fire brigade from nearby Shannon also responded.

The off-ramp has been closed and traffic diverted away from the area until a forensic examination of the scene is completed.

The injured man was rushed to University Hospital Limerick in a critical condition but was later pronounced dead.
