Clare Young Fine Gael team in debating final

Clare Young Fine Gael (YFG) was placed second at the YFG National Debating Final held in Portlaoise.

The team comprised siblings Rebecca (25), Gareth (23) and Gerry (21) Gregan from Clarecastle.

Clare YFG qualified for the final having won the Munster Round of the competition in early February.

The finals began with a semi-final round in which the Clare Team were drawn against Ireland East Champions Wexford YFG to speak against a motion on lowering the voting age to 16.

The Clare team successfully won that debate and progressed through to the final round where they had to debate against Dublin Bay-South YFG and oppose a motion in support of a United Ireland.

It was Dublin Bay-South who came out on top to take the National Debating Title. It was not all bad news for the team of siblings as Rebecca Gregan was awarded Best Speaker for the Debating Competition.
