Irish Coast Guard volunteers recovered a body from the sea in Co Clare on Saturday afternoon.

The body is believed to be that of a woman feared missing in the area of the Cliffs of Moher since a car was discovered abandoned last Tuesday.

Following the discovery of the vehicle, Gardaí requested the Irish Coast Guard to assist in the search of the area. It’s understood the vehicle was traced back to a woman from the Roscommon area.

On Saturday afternoon, a body was spotted in the water about a kilometre north of Doolin Pier. Doolin Coast Guard launched one of their boats and the body was quickly located.

The body was recovered to Doolin Coast Guard station before being transported to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

Meanwhile, on Friday night, Coast Guard personnel from Doolin station were requested to assist the HSE with the medical evacuation of a man believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest in the local area.

The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, was requested to airlift the patient to hospital.

Coast Guard volunteers assisted ambulance paramedics while other members of the Doolin secured a safe landing site for the helicopter.

The man, believed be in his 60’s, was flown to Galway University Hospital for treatment.
