Burren road impassable after recent rain

One road in the county remains impassable following the weekends heavy rainfall.

Routes in both east and west Clare that were left blocked by flooding have been cleared however one road in the Burren National Park remains impassable.

The road near Kilnaboy is likely to remain closed for several days after a local turlough close to Mullaghmore overflowed.

A Clare County Council spokesman confirmed: “A local road in the townland of Poundtown, Kilnaboy, is impassable due to flooding arising from the impact of heavy rainfall on a local turlough. The road is likely to remain closed for a number of days.”

Meanwhile, just a few kilometres away on Sunday night, emergency services were alerted to a car trapped in flood waters near Leamaneh Castle.

Fire and ambulance crews from Ennistymon responded to the incident along with gardaí.

On arrival at the scene, paramedics and gardaí were informed that the occupants of the car were being cared for in a local house. They travelled to the house where they found the occupants of the vehicle to be uninjured.
