Man arrested following Shannon drugs seizure

A man has been arrested following a drugs seizure in Shannon today.

As part of ongoing investigations targeting Organised Crime Groups operating in the Western Region, a Joint Intelligence led operation was conducted by the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Revenue Commissioners Customs Service and the Clare Garda Drugs Unit.

The operation resulted in the search of a house in the Shannon area pursuant to a warrant issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act. During the course of this search operation, a package which contained approximately 1098 Grams of Herbal Cannabis with an estimated value of €21,960 was seized by Customs Officers.

Gardaí arrested a 24 year old man at the scene and he is currently being detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice ( Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Shannon Garda Station.

Gardaí have said investigations are ongoing.

Chief Reporter Pat Flynn has worked as a journalist for almost 30 years. His career began during the late 1980s when, like many aspiring radio presenters of the time, he worked for local pirate radio stations in Clare and Limerick.
