A US-bound passenger jet diverted to Shannon Airport last night after the crew declared a medical emergency reporting a young child had fallen ill.

The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter completed a long-range medevac (medical evacuation) operation off the south west coast of Ireland early this morning.

The Atlantic Aviation Group (AAG) has confirmed the formal integration of the operations of the former Lufthansa Technik facility in Shannon, Co. Clare.
