‘Small’ fire at Moneypoint generating station

Units of the fire brigade from Kilrush and Kilkee have dealt with a fire at the ESB’s electricity generating station at Moneypoint in west Clare.

The fire, on a coal mill feeder, was detected at around 8.00am by staff at the plant.

The alarm was raised and three units of the fire brigade from Kilrush were sent to the scene. An additional appliance from Kilkee station was also requested to assist.

ESB staff and local authority fire fighters spent around two hours tackling the fire.

Nobody was injured in the incident and its understood no damage was caused.

An ESB spokesman confirmed that a ‘small fire’ broke out on a mill feeder at the facility and that it was ‘standard procedure’ to alert the fire brigade.

“It was detected early and brought under control quickly by ESB Staff with the assistance of the Fire Brigade,” the company said.
