Body recovered from sea near Doolin

A body has been recovered from the sea in Co Clare.

The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard was alerted to the discovery early today.

It’s understood the body was spotted by search teams  Doonagore Bay near Doolin at around 8.00am.

The Coast Guard and Gardaí had been searching for a 64-year-odl Dublin man feared to have fallen from the Cliffs of Moher last week.

The man’s car had been located in a nearby carpark on May 12th. The alarm was raised when the car was found to be in the same location the following morning.

Coast Guard volunteers had been carrying out land and sea searches over the last week while the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter had undertaken sweeps of the Clare coast from Hags Head to Black Head.

The body, which has not been identified, was recovered to the Coast Guard station in Doolin and taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem is expected to take place.
