Write rap and record your summer in Ennistymon

music hip hop rapThe next generation of music talent in Clare are being encouraged to attend an upcoming eight week workshop in Ennistymon.

North West Clare Family Resource Centre (NWFRC) in partnership with Music Generation Clare (MGCE) announce exciting new summer workshop series ā€˜Write, Rap, Recordā€™.Ā  Workshops are aimed at young people between the ages of 14-18 and will take place over eight Wednesday evening in An GrianĆ”n, North West Clare Family Resource Centre, Ennistymon, commencing on June 8th.

This programme, which does not require the participants to have any previous experience in relation to music theory or performance will afford participants the opportunity to work with mynameisjOhn, Theresa Leahy and James Sheppard and aspires to bring young people from diverse cultural and international backgrounds together, who wish to engage in a creative music environment, and record their music for camera.

In the workshops facilitated and led by mynameisjOhn, participants will undergo a collaborative program that will explore their artistic expression in electronic music / hip-hop and identify how it can be used as a means of personal reflection and expression.Ā  Participants will discover an awareness of the history and evolution of DJ culture and hip-hop music, and the techniques involved in its production and performance, they will explore rhythm and vocal percussion, DJing, Rap/song writing, Production & Sampling, Recording, and Performance.

Drama facilitator, Theresa Leahy will explore the skills needed to bring the message of the writing to the world of the camera performance, and James Sheppard will film the composition created by the participants, in the form of a music video.

A fee of ā‚¬24 applies for the eight week workshop which has a very limited number of places available. Participants are advised to complete expression of interest forms which are available in the NWFRC, to download from the NWFRC and Music Generation Clare Facebook pages, and should return them to: Paddy Mulcahy, Youth Shack Development & Outreach Worker, An GrianĆ”n, North West Clare Family Resource Centre, Ennistymon, Co. Clare on/before Friday June 3rd 2016.
