This game was played in poor conditions but four goals coming in the second half saw the Blues secure the top spot in Group 1 and progress to the semi-final stages. It was the eldest of the Mc Mahon sisters that stole the headlines as the experienced Sharon grabbed herself 2-02 from a possible 4-13

Newmarket on Fergus opened the scoring with a Rachel Kelleher free and they never looked back, hitting five more points in a row. Kelleher, Sharon McMahon, Niki Kaiser extended Newmarket’s lead but back came St Josephs courtesy of Orlaith Lynch and Erinn Hennessy. Kelleher and Kaiser came to the fore with another two points leaving the half-time score 0-09 to 0-03.

Sharon Mc Mahon’s long range effort dipped under the bar to register the opening goal of the game. Shortly afterwards, Mc Mahon fired past Ann Marie Mc Gann to get her second of the match and lengthen the lead.

Jenny Kelly had the Blues third green flag raised while further points from Kelleher and Gemma McInerney pushed Newmarket further away from St Josephs’ sight. Joanne Walsh quickly reacted to a blocked Aine O’Brien ‘45 to hammer her attempt past the helpless Ann-Marie Mc Gann and secured victory, 4-13 to 0-04.

Newmarket impressed through-out and can now turn their attention to a semi-final spot, awaiting the second place team in Group 2.
