Bridge United will feel they let this one slip from their grasp in this feisty 2nd round tie of the Munster Junior Cup. The visitors dominated the opening half in Roslevan and were unlucky not to take the lead on twenty minutes when Derek Fahy’s bullet header from a Kieran Quinlan cross was brilliantly by Barry Ryan in the Avenue goal.

The opener came five minutes later when Okoro won possession and was fouled on the edge on the box but referee Mark Rellis played a good advantage as Derek Fahy rifled home from 20 yards to Ryan’s right.

The second half proved a more evenly contested affair but Bridge would be left to regret not extending their lead during their periods of dominance. The introductions of Mark Roche and Ronan Kerin were effective ones and with four minutes left on the clock a David Herlihy cross was headed home by Kerin to level the game.

With the game looking like it was heading to extra time Kerin proved to be the match winner with a moment of brilliance when he volleyed home from 25 yards giving Brennan no chance in the Bridge goal.

Newmarket Celtic got revenge on Bridge Celtic for the 3-2 defeat in the reverse fixture on the first day of the season in the Maloney Garden Machinery Premier Division. After a stop start first 20 minutes, it was Seamie Lawlor who broke the deadlock and opened the floodgates for Newmarket.

Ronan McCormack added to the opener soon after when he poked the ball home from close range after Eoin Hayes had done all the hard work. Bridge Celtic responded just before the break when a well struck shot from the edge of the area took a deflection and that carried it over the head of Niall Quinn and into the far side of the net.

It proved to be just a flash in the pan though as Newmarket pulled away in the second period.

First, good wing play from Eoin Hayes set up his younger brother, Cathal, whose first time finish was equally impressive. That was followed by a nice one two between Darren Cullinan and Ronan McCormack which resulted in Cullinan putting the ball past the oncoming keeper. Substitue Jason O’Neill finished the rout with a composed finish.

Newmarket Celtic: Niall Quinn; David O’Grady, Paddy Purcell, Tino Nzvaura, Darren Cullinan; Ronan McCormack, Seamie Lawlor, Eoin O’Brien, Cathal Hayes; Eoin Hayes, Davy McCarthy.
