Warning about driving conditions as cold snap expected

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning for Co Clare which could result in hazardous driving conditions.

Forecasters says we can expect sleet and snow for a time leading to some accumulations, most significant on higher ground.

Possible impacts of the short cold snap include hazardous travelling conditions; poor visibility and the risk of ice on untreated surfaces

The warning came into effect at 3.00am today (Thursday) and remain in place until 1.00pm. The counties that will be affected include Clare, Galway, Laois, Offaly, Tipperary, Westmeath, and Wicklow.

Thursday

Blustery today with rain, possibly turning to sleet at times this morning. The rain will be heavy in places before easing and becoming patchier in the late afternoon and evening. Highest afternoon temperatures of 5 or 6 degrees in fresh and gusty easterly winds.

Tonight

Tonight will be breezy and cloudy with further outbreaks of rain. Lowest temperatures of 5 or 6 degrees in moderate to fresh easterly winds.
