The N67 Miltown Malbay to Spanish Point road has reopened following last night’s collision.
Garda Forensic Collision investigators completed their examination of the scene this afternoon while fire crews from Ennistymon station returned to clear the area of debris and engine fluids which had been scattered over a wide area.
Both vehicles have been recovered from the scene and have been removed for a technical examination.

Gardaí have now confirmed that one person was arrested following last night’s collision and that a total of 6 people were hospitalised.
A male and female, both in their teens, as well as a woman and three men were injured in the collision. All six are currently receiving treatment for serious injuries at University Hospital Limerick. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.The road where the incident occurred remains closed at this time. Local diversions are currently in place.
Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with this collision. Investigations are ongoing.

Earlier: Five people were taken to hospital following a road traffic collision in Co Clare on Sunday evening.
The two-car collision occurred at around 6.30pm on the N67 Spanish Point road out of Miltown Malbay about 500m from the town’s square and outside the local GAA field. Both cars struck a wall following the initial impact.
Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennistymon station responded to the scene along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí.
A total of five people were injured in the collision and firefighters had to use specialist cutting equipment to help free the injured from the wreckage. All five were transported by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
It’s understood that one person was seriously injured but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The others are not believed to have been seriously hurt.
The road remain closed overnight while a technical examination of the scene is currently underway way.
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Ennis, a collision involving a car and a motorcycle occurred shortly after 7.00pm. The incident happened on the main N68 Ennis to Kilrush at Kilmorane at the turn off for Ballyea.
Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station responded to that incident along with Gardaí and a number of ambulances from Clare and Limerick.
The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with what’s understood to be a lower limb fracture while his pillion passenger was assessed at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.
It’s understood that occupants of the car were uninjured.
The scene was examined by Garda Crime Scene Investigation officers before the road was reopened to traffic.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the both collisions.
