Gardaí appeal for responsible parking this weekend

Gardai in Ennis are asking patrons who will be attending the GAA games at Cusack Park in Ennis this Friday, Saturday and Sunday to ensure that they park their vehicles in designated areas and car spaces.

The first of three matches this weekend will take place on Friday evening in Ennis.

“We have had a large increase in complaints regarding illegal parking and the subsequent tickets being issued,” a Garda spokesperson said.

Gardaí are also appealing to people to be conscious of others when they park their vehicles. Motorists are asked to consider vulnerable pedestrians with mobility issues, such as wheel chair users and our elderly.

“Think before you park” is the message from Gardaí.

“If you park your vehicle on a footpath or double yellow line etc… you run the risk of receiving a fixed charge notice, with a fine,” a Garda spokesperson said.

*The match throw-in times are Friday, 6.45pm; Saturday, 6.00pm and Sunday, 2.00pm.

On February 13th last, when another match was taking place at Cusack Park, Gardaí posted a photo on the An Garda Síochána Clare Facebook page showing a person on a mobility scooter having to drive on the road because a car was parked on the footpath.

Gardaí on patrol discovered the vehicle parked on a footpath, placing vulnerable people at risk. A Fixed Charge Notice was issued for a parking offence.
