Child reported missing in North Clare found safe and well

A 10-year-old boy, reported missing in North Clare this afternoon, has been found safe and well following a major search.

The alarm was raised at around 3.30pm this afternoon when it was reported that the young boy had wandered off during a visit to the Cliffs of Moher.

Staff at the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre were alerted while Gardaí were also quickly notified. A search was immediately mounted.

The Irish Coast Guard was also requested to mobilise resources. Volunteers from the Doolin unit from the service were dispatched while Clare Civil Defence was also asked to send a drone team to assist with the search.

The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, was also tasked.

It’s understood that boy had made his way along the popular cliff trail and was located south of the main viewing area close to Hags Head. It’s understood he was found by Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre staff, Gardaí and the crew of Rescue 115.

The boy, believed to have been missing for about an hour, was unharmed and did not require medical attention. He was reunited with his family.
