Shannon Airport mistakenly referred to as ‘Limerick’ at Gatwick

Gatwick Airport has said it will investigate why information on flight information screen’s and on its own website has Ryanair flights operating to ‘Limerick’ instead of Shannon Airport.

One of the low-cost carrier’s most popular routes from Shannon is the daily FR-1182 service to Gatwick Airport located in West Sussex in the South of England.

On Sunday and again today, flight information for FR-1182 has appeared online and on airport screens as arriving  from ‘Limerick’. It also shows the return leg, FR-1183, as destined for Limerick.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said however: “Ryanair fly to Shannon Airport – this is very much visible on our website. Please direct your query to the airport as they manage the screens at the airport.”

Fianna Fáil aviation spokesperson and Clare TD Cathal Crowe said on Facebook: “As my party’s Spokesperson on Aviation and a staunch supporter Shannon Airport I will be writing to Stewart Wingate, CEO of London Gatwick about this. Shannon deserves its proper name!”
