A man is recovering in hospital after he was injured in a fall on a walking trail in North Clare this afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 3.00pm about a kilometre north of O’Brien’s Tower at the Cliffs of Moher.
It’s understood that members of the public, who had also been visiting the cliffs, reported the incident to staff at the visitor centre. They in turn contacted the emergency services.
The National Ambulance Service was also requested to attend along with the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard.
Coast Guard volunteers made their way to the area and quickly located the casualty. The area where the accident occurred is not accessible by ambulance, only Coast Guard 4x4s and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs)
When an ambulance arrived at the visit centre, a paramedic was transported by a Coast Guard ATV to the location. The casualty was assessed and treated at the scene before being transported by ATV to the waiting ambulance.
The man was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment for a lower leg injury.
