Man due in court following €10m drugs seizure

A man will appear in court in Ennis today in connection with the seizure of cannabis valued at over €10m earlier this week in the county.

One man in his 60s has been charged and is due to appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court this afternoon.

The second individual, also in his 60s, who was arrested has been released from Garda custody without charge. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

This seizure was made on Wednesday as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), Clare Divisional Drugs Unit and Gardaí from Limerick Division.

Two men were arrested by An Garda Síochána and were detained at Garda Stations in Clare and Limerick under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act 1996.

The seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations involving organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.

Revenue is urging businesses, or members of the public who have any information regarding drug smuggling to contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
