Three injured in East Clare road traffic collision

Three people have been taken to hospital following a road traffic collision in East Clare this afternoon.

The two-car crash occurred at around 1.30pm on the R463 Ardnacrusha to Killaloe road near Clonlara. It’s understood that one of the casualties was seriously injured.

A number of ambulances, a rapid response advanced paramedic unit and Gardaí responded to the incident along with fire crews from two counties. Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Killaloe station along with crews from Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident.

Fire crews had to use specialist equipment to cut a door off one vehicle so they could safely remove the injured driver. It’s understood that she sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

The two occupants of the second vehicle were also taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment. There is not information yet on their condition.

The road remains closed and is not expected to reopen until later this afternoon. Traffic is being diverted away from the area while Gardaí are asking motorists to avoid the area.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a two vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on the R463 road near Clonlara in Co. Clare this afternoon, Wednesday 14th May 2025.

The road remains closed at this time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. As this is an ongoing incident no further information is available at this time.”
