To celebrate National Biodiversity Week, the Cliffs of Moher Experience and Clare County Council invite the public to a special screening and exhibit of ‘Life on the Edge’, a new exhibit series spotlighting the tenacious beauty of wild plants growing along the iconic Cliffs of Moher. National Biodiversity Week 2025 in Ireland takes place from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 25, 2025.
Visitors can enjoy ‘Life on the Edge’ film screenings inside the Visitor Centre. The event offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the native flora and fauna of the Cliffs. On Saturday, May 17, Sunday, May 18, Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23, visitors can also try out virtual reality headsets to explore the cliffs’ rich biodiversity in a fully immersive experience.
‘Life on the Edge’ explores the incredible lives of cliff-dwelling plants like sea pinks, yarrow, and campion, species that persist against the odds in one of Ireland’s most extreme natural environments. These plants are more than beautiful; they are essential, resilient, and vital to the health of the ecosystem.
Through the insights of Oonagh O’Dwyer, a local horticulturist and forager, viewers are encouraged to look more closely at the often-overlooked plant life that forms the foundation of vibrant ecosystems. The series highlights the importance of native flora in supporting biodiversity and celebrates nature’s quiet resilience.

The Cliffs of Moher Experience is located within the Burren & Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, a region home to over 700 species of flowering plants, conifers, and ferns—representing around 75% of Ireland’s native flora. The cliffs are also designated as a Special Protection Area (SPA) for birds, hosting more than 30,000 breeding seabirds each year, making it one of Ireland’s most important natural habitats.
