Two men hospitalised after workplace accident

Two men have been hospitalised following a workplace accident in North Clare this morning.

It’s understood that two workers were injured in an incident involving scaffolding at a construction site in Ballyvaughan shortly before noon. It was initially reported that that scaffolding had collapsed on them.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennistymon station responded to the incident along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí.

The HSE’s Emergency Aeromedical Service air ambulance, Air Corps 112, operated jointly with the Irish Air Corps and based in Athlone, was tasked to the incident.

The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter was also requested to responded in an air ambulance role. Volunteers from the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard were also mobilised to secure a safe landing site for Rescue 115.

The casualties were assessed at the scene and found not to be seriously injured. Both were however transported to University Hospital Galway by road ambulances for treatment. They were later discharged.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was advised of the incident and are expected to visit the scene.
