Fire crews from Shannon and Ennis stations have dealt with a hazardous materials (Hazmat) incident at a logistics company depot in Shannon.
The alarm was raised at around 6.00am when emergency services were alerted to a chemical spillage at the UPS facility in the Smithstown Industrial Estate.
Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon and Ennis responded to the incident while the National Ambulance Service and Gardaí were also alerted.
On arrival at the scene, emergency services found that staff had already exited the building unharmed.
It’s understood the spillage involved around two litres of Nitric Acid. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus beneath specialist Hazmat suits entered the building to assess the situation.
The incident was contained and the acid neutralised before a cleanup operation began.
An ambulance which had been dispatched to the scene was stood down when it was confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
