One hospitalised following Doolin road collision

One person has been taken to hospital following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in North Clare this afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 12.15pm on the R478 Liscannor to Doolin road at Boherboy. It’s understood the driver lost control of their vehicle and collided with a telegraph pole before overturning.

Gardaí and National Ambulance Service paramedics responded to the incident along with units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennistymon station. An additional unit was deployed from Ennis station.

The HSE’s Cork-based Emergency Aeromedical Service air ambulance was also tasked to the incident. The helicopter was able to land in a car park close to the scene.

The two occupants of the car were assessed at the scene by HSE paramedics. When it was confirmed that the incident wasn’t as serious as initially reported, the Ennis fire crew was stood down.

After the male and female occupant of the car had been assessed, the woman was transported to hospital for further treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be serious.

When it was confirmed that the casualty could travel by road ambulance the helicopter was stood down and released to return to its base in Rathcoole.

The road was left partially blocked following the collision and closed so that emergency services could safely deal with the incident. However, fire crews were later able to implement an emergency traffic management system and reopen one lane to traffic.

Once the car had been recovered from the scene and the road cleared of debris, the route was fully reopened at around 2.35pm.
