Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks day one of the 16 Days of Activism.
Each year, from 25 November to 10 December, World Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism campaign calls for action against violence against women. This year the theme for 16 Days of activism is end digital violence against all women and girls.
Digital violence against women and girls is one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse from trolling, doxing and cyberbullying to image-based abuse, online grooming and AI-generated deep fakes.
Digital tools are being used more than ever to harm, harass and abuse women and girls.
What can we do?
We can take action in many ways – learn and share information from this year’s campaign, support local services that support survivors of gender-based violence and participate in digital safety sessions.
In County Clare, a number of events are being held over the next 16 days. If you would like to find out more, keep an eye of the Clarehaven Services Facebook page, Clare Libraries Facebook page, Haven Horizons Facebook page and the An Garda Síochána Clare Facebook page.
Please remember support is available from our local support service 24 hours a day, Clarehaven Services on 065 6842646.
