Vandeleur Walled Garden & Visitor Centre is inviting families, nature lovers and craft enthusiasts to welcome the arrival of spring with St Brigid’s Day–inspired workshops from Saturday, January 31, through Sunday, February 1, 2026.
The weekend celebrations begin at 12pm on Saturday with the ‘Create Your Own Bird Feeder Workshop’ and ‘Garden Walk: Feed & Follow Our Feathered Friends’.
Led by Head Gardener, Karoly Torok, this engaging and educational experience is designed especially for children and families. Participants will take a guided walk through the walled garden while learning about the resident birdlife. Attendees will then head into the Glasshouse for a hands-on workshop where they will create their own bird feeder to take home.
Visitors with nut or seed allergies should take appropriate precautions or abstain from this workshop as it involves handling birdseed, which may have been processed in a facility that handles nuts.
On Sunday, honouring the traditions of Lá Fhéile Bríde, Saint Brigid’s Cross-Making Workshops will run from 12pm to 3pm in the Glasshouse. Visitors are invited to drop in, learn the traditional weaving technique, and create their own St Brigid’s Cross to bring home — a symbol of protection, renewal and the beginning of spring.
Vandeleur Walled Garden & Visitor Centre looks forward to welcoming the community for a weekend of nature, tradition and creativity as spring begins to stir.
Access Pass holders will receive complimentary entry, while general admission rates apply to non-pass holders. While there is no charge for the cross-making workshop, the bird feeder workshop costs €10 per participant and must be booked in advance. Places are limited and booking early is advised.
