Woman airlifted to hospital after fall near Doolin

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after sustaining injuries in a fall in North Clare this morning.

Emergency services were alerted shortly after 10.00am when they received a report that a person had fallen from a wall Doonagore, Doolin. It’s understood the woman had been hiking in the area at the time.

The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard, based just a short distance away, responded to the incident.

The National Ambulance Service was also alerted and mobilised resources to the scene. It’s understood that an ambulance and paramedic response vehicle were dispatched from Galway to the incident.

The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, was also requested to attend the incident. The helicopter was able to land in a field close to the scene which had been identified and made safe by Coast Guard volunteers.

After being initially assessed and treated at the scene, the casualty was airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
