A large vehicle rammed the barrier from the village side, demolishing a pier and upright and damaging the signage. If anyone has knowledge of this happening, please pass the information on to the GardaĆ.ā€

A post on the Clarecastle Ballyea Parish Facebook page said: ā€œThe Quay is such an important amenity in our community. It sadden us to see this damage done. If you have any information, please contact the Gardai.”

A steady stream of cars visited the area on Sunday and Monday to view the damage for themselves. The entrance to the quay has been closed to vehicles on safety grounds.

One long time resident said: “That’s just pure vandalism. Even if it was dark you’d be hard pushed not to see the barrier. I hope one of the cameras on the road or in the village picked up the culprits.”
