A woman has been airlifted to hospital after she was injured in a fall in the Burren in North Clare this afternoon.
The incident shortly before 4.00pm Knockaunroe in the Burren National Park. The woman had been hiking in the area at the time.
National Ambulance Service paramedics and volunteers from the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard were tasked to the incident. The Galway Mountain Rescue Team was also requested to attend the scene.
The casualty was located about a kilometre from the nearest roadway in an area that was described as challenging to access.
The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter was tasked to the scene.
On arrival, the helicopter’s winchman/paramedic was lowered down to the scene. The casualty was assessed and treated on site before being transferred to a stretcher and winched on board the helicopter.
The injured woman was flown to University Hospital Galway for treatment. It’s understood she suffered lower leg injuries.
