Gardaí in Clare are investigating a number of incidents of fraud that left injured parties out of pocket.
Ennistymon Gardaí are investigating an incident that occurred last Thursday April 16th, where the injured party received a phonecall purporting to be from her bank. The caller asked the injured party to download the banking App to confirm activity on the account, and to click authenticate when done. This gave access to her account remotely and the injured party had money removed from her account.
Ennis Gardaí are investigating an incident of fraud that occurred last Wednesday the 15th April.
In this case, the injured party was selling a phone. The buyer arrived at the house and showed the injured party a screen shot of a bank transaction stating he had paid for the phone. The injured party handed over the phone but when he checked his bank account the money was not in it.
Ennis Gardaí are investigating a second incident fraud that occurred last Saturday the 18th April.
The injured party received a text message purporting to be from his father asking for him to send him cash. The injured party sent bank details and two transactions were made on his account.
Gardaí are advising the public:
– to double check the validity of all callers in regard to your banking.
– to double check the validity of these messages by ringing the person who is requesting the money to ensure it is them.
– to always check that the money has lodged into your account before handing over your product.
