A man has died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Clare this morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 7.00am on the R462 road at Ballymorris between Cratloe village and Setright’s Cross. It’s understood that a car collided with a wall.
National Ambulance Service paramedics and units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon station responded to the scene along with Gardaí.
On arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that the sole occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 40s, had passed away.
His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The Coroner has been notified.
The road was immediately closed and traffic diverted away from the scene via the Wood Road; Well Road and Sixmilebridge Road. A privacy scene was also erected around the vehicle pending the arrival of Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. An examination of the scene is currently being carried out.
Gardaí have been canvassing local residential properties and businesses for CCTV footage that could assist in their investigation.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been travelling on the R462 in Ballymorris, Cratloe, Co. Clare between 6:30am and 7:10am on Wednesday 29th July 2026.
Road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam or mobile phone recordings) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
